Your Lead Magnet Should Give People What They WANT, Not What They Need.
Early in my writing business, I made the mistake of trying to teach people the realities of authoring a book. I talked about quality of writing, knowing your market, delivering on what you promise. All of these things are important.
But you know what people wanted? They wanted a bestselling book.
So, I changed my marketing. I led with the fact that it is easy to have a bestselling book on Amazon (not at all easy for the NY Times list). I built that into my sales conversation; I assured them they could get what they wanted.
Then I talked about the importance of quality in both the writing and the content. But until I started offering what people wanted, they were not interested in anything else I had to say.
